Spiced Tea is a nostalgic drink from my childhood.  My Grandmother would mix up large batches of this tea, and hand it out to family and friends.  When I was sick with a bad cold, a hot cup of Spiced Tea would comfort me, and sooth my sore throat.  I’m so excited to share this special treat with everyone, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Spinach Turnover Recipe

15 Dec

Spinach Turnover Recipe is a flavorful, healthy, filling dish that everyone is sure to love. If you have some picky eaters, this is a great way to get them to eat their veggies.

Recently, I’ve been watching old Julia Child cooking videos from her TV show “The French Chef”.  I came across this recipe for Spinach Turnover, and instantly wanted to make one.  Now, I don’t own any of Julia Child’s cookbooks, something I intend on  fixing soon, so I had to write down this recipe straight from the video.  It is kind of a long recipe, but it’s not too complicated to make, and it tastes delicious!  If you should have any questions about the recipe, you can easily search for Julia Child’s cooking videos.  This one in particular is found on PBS.com and is called “The Spinach Twins”.  The video should help clear up anything I did not make clear in the recipe.

I recently realized that I have a ton of slow cooker recipes, and that I use them a lot.  One of the things I love best about crockery cooking is that at the end of a busy day, your meal is done with minimal effort.  It might take some time in the morning, but I think slow cooking is totally worth it.  Potato Casserole Recipe is one of my favorite type of crockery recipes, an awesome creamy side dish that makes a lot of servings with little effort.

Cranberry Pie Recipe

4 Nov

Cranberry Pie highlights the best qualities of cranberries. You still get that little bit of tart, but it is completely tamed down with a sweet filling.

Cranberry Pie Recipe calls for just six ingredients, and helps you celebrate the holiday season and harvest in a whole new way.  I am a huge fan of cranberries, and love finding ways to use them in more than just cranberry sauce and juice.  I think if you use cranberries in the right way, you can make believers out of the most difficult critics.

Homemade Meatballs Recipe

4 Oct

Homemade Meatballs are easy to make and taste out of this world. They can easily be adjusted to meet the needs of a gluten-free diet, and taste just as great.

Everyone should have an amazing recipe for homemade meatballs, and these will not let you down.  Meatballs are simple to make, and it seems that everyone you talk to has a super secret meatball recipe.  Now you can have one too.  Something that I think is important to remember when making your own homemade meatballs, is to keep it simple and use fresh, quality ingredients.  Personally, that is what I think makes the best meatballs.  The recipe calls for using 80% lean ground beef.  Using a slightly higher fat lean ground beef adds additional flavor, and helps hold the everything together, keeping the shape perfectly.

Carne Asada Recipe with Green Salsa

24 May

Carne Asada Recipe: Carne Asada is a roasted beef dish that is extremely easy to prepare. Next time taco night rolls around, switch things up a bit.

Carne Asada Recipe:  Carne Asada is a roasted beef dish, that literally means “roasted meat”.  Carne Asada is typically made with thin slices of marinated meat, that is grilled and used in tacos and burritos.  This recipe is slightly different.  By using a beef round roast and cooking it in the oven for 3 hours, you get a super flavorful, moist beef that pulls apart easily for perfect taco sized portions.

Although this Carne Asada takes 3 hours to cook, it is extremely easy to prepare.  The green salsa complements the Carne Asada very well, and it adds a nice color to the dish.  Our family loves the crunchy cabbage in our tacos, but, if your not too sure about using cabbage then substitute with lettuce.  Also, you can use just soft tacos or pre-made hard tacos if you like.  Next time taco night rolls around at your house, try this recipe instead of the typical seasoned ground beef tacos.

Kimchi Recipe: Kimchi are traditional Korean pickled dishes with various seasonings. You won't be disappointed with this Kimchi recipe...we'll guarantee it!

Kimchi Recipe:  Kimchi are traditional Korean pickled dishes with various seasonings.  You won’t be disappointed with this Kimchi recipe, it is our favorite, even in comparison to those made at Korean restaurants!  There are many different variations of kimchi that are dependent on region and often season by what is available.  This is a basic kimchi recipe, that is not made the traditional way, but one that is easily made and tastes every bit as delicious.  I do not use fish paste in my recipe (just not that big of a fan), however, if you prefer to have that in your kimchi it can be easily added in.

French Dip Sandwiches

29 Nov

French Dip Sandwiches are a crowd pleaser. Use your slow cooker to make super tender and flavorful roast beef.

French Dip Sandwiches are a favorite of mine.  I used to only eat them when out at restaurants, not having a good recipe to make them myself.  This is about as simple as it gets.  Even though the cooking time is long, your not really doing much, but letting the slow cooker do its job.  The great thing about making this roast beef in your slow cooker, is that unlike roasting beef in the oven, you don’t have to worry about the meat drying out.  The final product is a super moist, tender and flavorful beef.

Chicken Vesuvio

1 May

Chicken Vesuvio is a traditional Italian dish. This stove-top braise is incredibly delicious, full of delicate flavors.

Chicken Vesuvio, or Pollo alla Vesuvio, is another recipe from the cookbook, Whatever Happened to Sunday Dinner? by Lisa Caponigri.  Chicken Vesuivo is a simple stove-top braise that is incredibly delicious, giving you super tender chicken with a wonderful light flavor.  Just be sure to brown the chicken and potatoes well before proceeding with the recipe – the caramelization adds lot of flavor and the browned bits stuck to the bottom of the pan become the basis of a fantastic pan sauce.

Spinach Balls

16 Apr

Spinach balls are perfect as an appetizer, or my favorite, as a veggie meatball. Make them ahead of time and freeze for later use.

Spinach Balls come out of a cookbook I picked up while living in Virginia.  They are ment to be made and served as appetizers.  However, when I made these up, I was a bit impatient.  I didn’t feel like rolling about 100 small spinach balls, so instead, I made them meatball size.  This saved me a ton of time, and also made for the perfect meatball substitute.  Not only are they totally yummy to eat by themselves, but they are even better when mixed with a nice pasta sauce and placed on top of your favorite pasta.  If you want to sneak spinach into your families diet, this is a great way to it.

Gingered Sweet Potatoes offer a a different way to prepare and serve this awesome potato. The ginger adds a touch of bit, heavenly!

Sweet potatoes are amazing, and I love to make them all the time.  They are a perfect side dish, full of vitamins and flavor.  One problem I have with sweet potatoes is that I always seem to prepare them the same way; baked, mashed with some butter and cinnamon, and maybe some brown sugar added in if I’m feeling like I want more sweetness.  Gingered Sweet Potatoes is a great alternative way to present sweet potatoes.

Simple Pasta Sauce

Simple Pasta Sauce

Simple Pasta Sauce is a something I came up with when I had planned a nice spaghetti dinner, but soon realized that I had used up my supply of homemade Weekend Tomato Sauce, and had no store bought sauce in my pantry.  Dinner was at risk, I had no backup plan and had to come up with a solution quick.  I looked in the pantry, and much to my joy, I realized I could whip up a yummy sauce that wouldn’t take hours to prepare and cook.
